HISTORY

1971 LT-1 Corvette Coupe – 35,319 Original Miles – Pristine, Highly Awarded Restoration

This 1971 LT-1 Corvette Coupe has just 35,319 original miles and retains its untouched, damage-free body. I am the third owner, having cared for this car since September 27, 1974. From day one, it has never been exposed to rain or snow.
In the mid-to-late 1970s, the chassis and components underwent an extensive cleaning, leading to a meticulous, state-of-the-art restoration—long before prestigious awards like Survivor and Bowtie existed. Had they been available, this Corvette would have been a perfect candidate.

By 1987, the restoration was completed, with only 13 miles added for functionality and to pursue the NCRS Duntov Performance Verification Award. The goal was absolute authenticity—replicating the exact condition in which it left the assembly line in December 1970, including factory flaws such as lacquer paint texture, proper sheen, and areas of limited exterior paint coverage.

Every detail was painstakingly researched and executed. Conversations with Ronnie Hunt, who originally applied many LT-1 hood stripes, confirmed that stencil alignment was done with a ballpoint pen—often imperfect but commercially acceptable. This philosophy guided the restoration, ensuring assembly-line accuracy down to the direction of paint drip marks.

Authenticity extended to sourcing original-era materials. Paints and coatings were procured from GM’s original vendors, with verification from St. Louis, Flint Engine Assembly, and A.O. Smith. Even the rivets for the upper and lower ball joints were sourced from the original supplier, and a custom tool was made to replicate factory installation.

This Corvette sits on NOS tires and retains an NOS exhaust system. It has never been duplicated at this level for any marque. The interior is entirely original apart from a replacement carpet, and it appears virtually untouched. All numbers match, and it retains its factory-original drivetrain and components.

Stored in a climate-controlled environment with digitally monitored humidity, it remains in the same pristine condition as the day its restoration was completed. This Corvette has earned every major award in the hobby, including five-time invitations to the Bloomington Gold Special/Gold Collections, numerous Best in Show titles, and multiple magazine features, including cover stories in Vette Vues and Corvette Fever.

Too many accolades to list—serious inquiries only. Best of the best. $129K OBO.
